Facebook Launches M Assistant

Technology has brought the world closer than ever before. The rise of social media platforms have enabled people worldwide to remain in contact at the click of a button. One of the world’s largest social media platforms, Facebook, has over one billion monthly users. The Facebook Messenger application for smartphones and tablets has over 700 million users, and WhatsApp–a Wi-Fi messaging platform acquired by Facebook last year–has over 800 million users. These three platforms have joined forces to create M Assistant under the Facebook umbrella. This new service is yet another user assistance service, similar to Siri, Google Now, and Cortana. However, M Assistant is taking the user assistance service to the next level through artificial intelligence (AI), backed by real, human assistants.

Nearly 20 percent of the world’s population has a Facebook account to interact with family and friends across the globe. Facebook’s Messenger app allows users to contact one another with the click of a button and even allows for phone calls when associated with a phone number. The ability to speak with people worldwide instantaneously is a tremendous development for both technology and communication. However, Facebook Messenger has now integrated M Assistant into its offering, and this latest addition to the Facebook arsenal is undoubtedly a game changer.

M Assistant is an add-on built in to Facebook Messenger. The new service is similar to other AI user assistance services like Siri, Google Now, and Cortana. Through M, users are able to make purchases, send gifts, create reservations for restaurants, travel, and lodging, and more. Having these abilities make the hectic lives of consumers much simpler and easier.

However, the one thing that makes M Assistant more impressive than its predecessors is the fact that the “artificial” intelligence is coming from humans. Real humans are powering Facebook’s M Assistant operation to make the user experience more customized and less of a guessing game based on responses. Siri, Google Now, and Cortana are limited in their functions and abilities to respond because they are completely reliant on programming and artificial intelligence. As a result, M Assistant is not only able to help you but complete tasks for you because real people are behind delivering the  service, enabling them to deliver service when and how you want it done. The combination of technology between Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, AI, and humans is a combination that will be tough to beat given their built-in reach and abilities.

M Assistant has the opportunity to revolutionize not only the user experience but how the world operates. With artificial intelligence backed by humans, our busy lives can be “outsourced” because we know the people on the other end will be making smarter choices. M Assistant successfully builds on past AI user assistance services and is the next step in giving humans the control they desire. A large user base and funding from Facebook and advertisements will give M Assistant a leg up on the competition. Soon, M Assistant may be “living” in homes around the globe.
