Smart Technology No Longer Requires Screen

Smart technology continues to evolve every day. Today it is more advanced than ever before. This technology has improved so much so that screens are no longer required for many smart devices. Screens are no longer necessary because these devices react to a variety of commands — voice, gesture, sensor, and more. Smart devices have integrated a screenless experience through ambient notifications, wearables, automated responses, and more.

Connected devices are becoming less the exception and more of the norm as smart technology continues to evolve and become more readily available to the masses. The emergence of smart technology has created a web of smart devices dubbed the Internet of Things (IoT).  These devices are not only interconnected but have access to WiFi networks and smartphone applications making them accessible from anywhere. Wireless and even remote access is a huge benefit for consumers of IoT products, so they can be in control even when not near the devices.

Previously, screens were thought to be essential in delivering an outstanding user experience. However that is not always true. For many functions, and ones people do quite often, screens are just not necessary. New smart technology and IoT devices are reliant more on voice commands, gesture controls, and sensor data as opposed to the user interacting with a screen. While this seemingly simplifies the experience, these devices have reached a point where they can detect user patterns to make smart choices.

Several devices have already transitioned to a screenless experience. To combat the lack of a screen, these devices rely on ambient notifications, gesture controls, wearable technology, automated responses, and more. Ambient notifications use colors to signal different tasks. Gesture controls are dependent on hands or motion. Wearable technology often use small sensors that are embedded within a clothing item or accessory. Automated responses use sensors to detect patterns from past activity to make the right choices in the future.

The fact that smart technology no longer requires a screen is a tremendous development not only for consumers but manufacturers as well. Now companies and organizations have the freedom to develop bigger and better smart technology and IoT devices that have more application across platforms. The screenless experience has been well received so far despite its limited scope. While these companies are just beginning to enter the world of screenless experiences using ambient notifications, sensor data, gesture controls, and even voice commands, the future looks bright.
